More than 30-years ago the catchy catch phrase “Cancer Alley” was first coined by a union on strike in Ascension Parish, and after being debunked by science and going away for several years, the phrase has been resurrected and is now widely used by those opposed to industry in Louisiana and here in St. James Parish.

Louisiana Federal Credit Union (FCU) held its first all-digital Sweet Soiree fundraising auction for the American Cancer Society (ACS) on March 24. In less than three hours, the credit union and its remote attendees raised more than $7,100 to benefit ACS’ mission to fight for a world without cancer.
April is Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month. Amputee-coalition.org reports that more than 2 million Americans live with limb loss or limb difference and more than 28 million are at risk of amputation surgery. Amputations occur for a number of different reasons, including trauma and as a result of longterm conditions such as diabetes. One of the most important ways to help prevent limp loss involves effective wound care management - especially for at-risk patients and those living with diabetes and circulation issues.
St. John Theatre is excited that the long intermission due to the COVID-19 pandemic is coming to a close as the theatre announces that it will produce Once Upon a Mattress as its 2021 Summer Musical Production. Things will be a little different this year but we are eager to get back on the stage.
