Representatives of Equilon Enterprises, formerly known as Shell, addressed the St. James Parish School Board on Tuesday and asked for the Board’s blessing in receiving a standard Industrial Tax Exemption Program (ITEP) property tax exemption.
Last Thursday at the West Bank Reception Hall in Vacherie, senior citizens from St. James Parish gathered to learn about the ins and outs of the numerous scams that often prey upon the elderly and how to avoid falling victim to a scam. The “Protecting Our Seniors” event, which has been an annual event for many years, was put on by the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office and the day is geared to be a one-stop shop for seniors where they are educated and given the tools and resources to help them avoid being taken advantage of by scammers.
Last week, a Grand Jury in St. James Parish found there was enough evidence to hand down three indictments in three separate cases where the suspect is accused of a very serious crime. Two suspects are from Lutcher and the third is from Vacherie and all three are males.
The Lutcher Bulldogs beat the Hellen Cox Cougars last Friday 49-18, but head coach Dwain Jenkins says his team played a sloppy game. Jenkins said if his team continues to make the same mistakes as it did Friday it will come back to haunt the ‘Dogs as the competition gets better.
