Additional Funds have become available for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in St. James Parish. Lowincome residents of St. James Parish may be eligible for financial assistance to help pay utility bills. These additional funds are designated for St. James Parish Residents who are seniors over age 60, homebound, or disabled. Residents are ineligible if they received 2025 heating or cooling allocations.

On Tuesday, September 9th, St. James Parish Government held a Town Hall meeting to share information on the Flood Control Drainage Improvement Project for Rosary Street in Vacherie.

CONGRATULATIONS TO COACH BOO: Last Thursday evening, as I customarily do on my drive home, I listened to WWL talk radio. This time as I tuned in, I heard WWL’s Mike Detillier introduce Coach Irving “Boo” Schexnayder who was recently named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame 2025 Class. Now that’s quite a title and one must have a keen memory just to remember all the parts of the name. As the interview progressed, Detillier and Schexnayder bantered back and forth, asking and answering questions. I thought to myself, “I know they’re both speaking English, but I have no idea what they’re talking about.” Have you ever felt that way? What they were talking about was so far out of my level of understanding or experience. But that’s why we have specialists like Boo. He apparently knows what he’s doing since he travels the world sharing his knowledge. He has quite a record of bringing out the best in the best of the world’s track and field athletes, pushing, coaching and encouraging them to some still unsurpassed records. Boo will accept the actual award in Texas this December, but he’s earned our respect years ago. What an honor for him and for St. James Parish.
