The Lutcher Mayor and Aldermen met in special session last Thursday evening to discuss and to vote to enter into a new contract with Waste Management, and after a lengthy debate, the Aldermen (Alderman Tommy George and Alderwoman Darlene Riley absent) voted unanimously to go to once-a-week, automated collection for residential customers.
St. John Theatre is currently celebrating its 41st year in operation and is continuing its mission to serve the community with its inaugural “Pumpkin Patch Party”.
Everyone has a voice and on October 14th, 2022 all Paulina Elementary School students participated in AAC awareness day in order to create a more inclusive environment. AAC stands for augmentative and alternative communication. Speech-language pathologists work with children with limited or no verbal skills. One form of AAC is an iPad that utilizes a voice output application. Children with limited or no verbal skills at PES use these types of iPad devices, which are recommended by a speech-language pathologist, in order to communicate and participate within the school and home environment.
October is Child Search Awareness month in Louisiana. Child Search is a program in every school system to ensure that any child who is eligible for Special Educational Services receives them. It’s the Law…Every child age 321, regardless of disability is entitled to a free, appropriate public education. In addition, babies birth through age 2 who have problems may be evaluated free of charge and provided services if eligible. On Thursday, October 27th the LSU AgCenter, with sponsorship from St. James Farm Bureau, is hosting a Wildlife Field Day. It’s free to the public and will include a food plot display, educational talks, and a demonstration on proper butchering of large game using a deer as our model. It ends with free supper, so I’m expecting a crowd.
