Environmental Groups Celebrate Court Ruling Vacating Formosa Air Permits

A ruling last week by 19th Judicial District Judge Trudy White has local and national environmental groups jumping for joy as the Court vacated the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) decision to issue air permits that Formosa Plastics needed to build the Sunshine Project - a $9.4 billion plastics making facility on 2,300 acres of property on the west bank of St. James Parish. Since 2018, which is when Formosa (FG LA) announced its intentions to construct a plastics making facility in St. James Parish, numerous environmental groups and environmentalists have been in a battle that has mostly played out in the courts.

FEMA Awards Nearly $1 Million In Grant Funding To Port Of South LA For Cybersecurity And Technology Uprades

The Port of South Louisiana was awarded $955,339 in Port Security grant funding from the Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency. The funding will go toward the enhancement of the Port of South Louisiana's cyber security framework, as well as support enhancements to its Geographic Information System (GIS) that will provide up-todate spatial information to port security personnel and public safety agencies in the Port's 54-miles of jurisdiction along the lower Mississippi River.

Emily Loupe Compete In LA Sugar Queen Festival

Emily Loupe, the 2022 Miss St. James Parish Queen, will be competing this weekend in the 79th Louisiana State Sugar Queen Festival in New Iberia. Emily will arrive in New Iberia on Friday morning with a full itinerary for the weekend. All contestants will first register at the Holiday Inn Express, which is the festival headquarters for this weekend. At 1:20 p.m., all the contestants will depart for the first part of their competition, the interviews. All contestants will have an interview with a panel of judges. After the interviews, Emily and the other contestants will return to the hotel to freshen up for the Farmer’s Tractor Parade and the Candy Toss Parade. At 5:15 p.m., they will all depart the hotel for the Farmer’s Tractor Parade where they will be on a hay ride in the parade down Main Street.
