The St. James Wildcats and the Lutcher Bulldogs had the opportunity to showcase their product last week in their respective jamborees and the teams gave fans a glimpse into what to expect when the teams officially start the regular season this week. Lutcher, who kicks off the season later this evening when the team travels to Thibodaux, hosted Class 5A Destrehan in its jamboree, while the Wildcats, who matched up with Vandebilt Catholic last Friday in Vacherie, open the season this Friday on the road at East St. John (Class 5A).

Crack Found On Sunshine Bridge; Repair To Be Made

Editor Last Thursday, August 18th, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LDOTD) announced the westbound right lane on the Sunshine Bridge (LA 70) in St. James Parish was closed after a significant crack was found in one of the 168 vertical structural members. According to a press release issued by LDOTD, staff discovered the recently developed crack during a planned and routine inspection of the bridge.

Moratorium Gives Parish Council Time To Study Effects Of Solar Farms

After an hour-long public hearing last Wednesday, August 17th, the St. James Parish Council voted 6-1 in favor of implementing a moratorium to temporarily hault any solar panel farms from being built in the Parish and to give the Council until the end of March 2023 to study the effects of such farms would have on future residential and commercial growth in Vacherie. DESRI Inc., a renewable energy company which develops, constructs, owns, and manages solar and wind power generation and battery storage projects, is interested in building a solar panel farm on 4,000 acres of sugarcane land farmed separately by the Gravois and Rodrigue families.
