Thirty-year Old Gramercy Man Pleads Guilty To Manslaughter; Faces Maximum Of 40-Years In Prison

Twenty-third Judicial District Attorney Ricky Babin’s office reports that on August 30th, 30-year-old Quannae Clark (502 N Ezidore St., Gramercy) pled guilty to Manslaughter in connection with the 2019 shooting death of 22-year-old Destin Smith. Clark’s guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement between he and prosecutors and the plea was taken just prior to opening statements of a scheduled jury trial. On February 11, 2019, St. James Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Lutcher apartment complex in reference to a shooting.

Seven-hour Standoff With Police Ends Without Incident

A roughly seven-hour standoff between a disgruntled man and police that took place near St. James High School ended peacefully early Tuesday morning. On Monday, September 5th at approximately 11:28 p.m., the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle parked in the parking lot of the Acadian Ambulance substation, which is located near St. James High School in Vacherie. Deputies were dispatched and upon arrival discovered a vehicle occupied by a man and a woman, both Ascension Parish residents.
