Power of Praise

Power of Praise

Every generation somewhere in the world has suffered from the ravaging effects of war. Natural disasters, corrupt and despotic governments, and uncertain financial times have stripped away the sense of security and well-being from millions of people. Yet it is possible to have real personal peace even when the world is in a state of upheaval. This is what the Bible calls “the peace of God” and it surpasses all human understanding because God Himself gives it to His people: “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7) The preceding verse is the key to obtaining God’s peace: “Be careful [anxious] for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” (vs.6) To receive the peace of God, we must understand that He is the source of everything we need. It is in tumultuous times that our faith is put to the test: “Will I fret and fear in trying circumstances, or will I ask the Lord to help me, thanking Him before I see my answer, knowing that He has heard me and will deliver me?” The peace that God gives after we leave our burdens with Him is the assurance we receive that He is in control and is working out all things for our good and His glory.
