DRESS CODES FOR RESTAURANTS:

DRESS CODES FOR RESTAURANTS:

I have been following the conversation of the past two weeks on dress codes for restaurants. Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse enforces a “business casual” dress code in their main dining rooms, requiring “proper attire”. The restaurant is now requiring that guests avoid gym wear such as sweatpants or shorts, pool attire, tank tops, cut-off shorts, clothing with offensive graphics, or exposed underwear. Hats must be removed in the dining room, but caps and jerseys are allowed in the bar or lounge. Casual, comfortable shoes are acceptable but not flipflops. Ruth’s Chris says the policy is designed to maintain an upscale, family-friendly atmosphere. Dressing up, such as with slacks, collared shirts, or cocktail dresses, is commonly seen and appropriate for their restaurant. Just a few months ago, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said some airline travelers should rethink how they dress when flying. “I would encourage people to maybe dress a little bit better, which encourages us to maybe behave a little better,” Duffy said in a news conference. “Let’s try not to wear slippers and pajamas as we come to the airport.”
