WHEN KIDS PLAYED FOR REAL: I worry about kids these days and wonder if they really know how to play. They spend a lot of time on their cell phones despite warnings that so much time spent on electronics at a young age stunts the growth of the front of the brain and leads to early onset dementia. They are so reliant on electronic games that they aren’t given opportunities to think critically, discern for themselves and make decisions. I was at the grocery store the other day and a teenager old enough to carry car keys was apparently sent to shop for an adult. “Should I get 8 oz. or 12?” she said to herself. “I wonder if she prefers blue or green.” Too many questions. She had to call the person who sent her to the store. Will there ever come a day when she realizes that it really doesn’t matter how much toothpaste she buys or what color it is.
