We learned Friday that Dr. Percy Pierre will receive an honorary degree at the Loyola University graduation on Saturday, May 9. Dr. Pierre, who was born in the St. James community of Freetown, is the first African American in the United States to earn a Ph.D. in electrical engineering. He helped to shape national conversations around diversity and engineering and has become one of the most noted and celebrated scholars and statesmen in recent history.
