Shell Convent Refinery Workers Diagnosed With Cancer Secure Cash Benefits From Multiple Private Trusts

Refinery workers employed before 1981 diagnosed with various cancers are entitled to special benefits. Lung cancer, esophageal cancer, laryngeal cancer, pharyngeal cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, rectal cancer, and mesothelioma are frequently caused by asbestos exposure. Asbestos-laced products were used for decades at Shell Convent Refinery. Neither employees nor management were aware of the asbestos risk.

Emergency Financial Assistance Available To Parish Residents

St. James Parish Government, Department of Human Resources, Community Action Agency has financial assistance available for St. James Parish residents through the Community Services Block Grant Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act. Funds must be used to prevent, prepare, and respond to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Applicants may apply for emergency assistance including rent, mortgage, food, preventive kits, COVID related medical and/or burial expenses, internet and/or distant learning costs, mental health resources, childcare, financial literacy, stipend, etc.

St. Peter Chanel 2nd grade students celebrated the feast day of St. Joseph on Friday, March 19th. The students learned about the patron saint of our church through the video “The Story of St. Joseph” on Christian Kids TV and discussions. They also learned about mak ing a St. Joseph’s altar and why the tradition was started.
