Last Friday, several onlookers in Vacherie got a quick glimpse of American history when a 80-year old Union Pacific steam locomotive aptly named Big Boy No. 4014 passed through town while on a 10-state tour.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM), in partnership with the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office (SJSO), has arrested a Lutcher man for allegedly setting fire to his relative’s home which spread to two additional structures.

Meeting only two days after a huge, very intense, blazing fire destroyed a house and two other nearby buildings in Lutcher, Parish President Peter Dufresne and members of the St. James Parish Council discussed the need for paid firemen to be early responders especially during daytime fires.
