How much has changed in a year! First, I am certain that I speak for everyone in our parishes when I offer our sympathy and prayers for those devastated by the catastrophe in South Florida. While acknowledging that many in our region are still healing, we are all too familiar with their plight.
Students in St. James Parish have a fresh batch of school supplies for the year, thanks to Louisiana Federal Credit Union (FCU) and its Pack the Pirogue initiative. The credit union delivered pirogues filled with 8,243 school supplies items to 11 classrooms in southeast Louisiana. The recipients were nominated by community members during Louisiana FCU’s annual Pack the Pirogue supplies drive.
Nola Jean Ernest, MD, PhD, FAAP, a community pediatrician in Enterprise, Alabama and a native of St. James Parish, Louisiana, began her term on Oct. 1, 2022 as president of the Alabama Chapter-American Academy of Pediatrics (AL-AAP), an 850-member statewide society of pediatricians.
Patricia “Ducy’ Schexnayder, a former member of the St. James Parish School Board, passed away after a brief illness.
