If there is one good thing to come out of the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Ida, it is that we all should have our chainsaws up and running and ready to build some bonfires.
The St. James Parish School Board met last Tuesday at Vacherie Elementary School and the Board voted (member George Nassar abstaining) in favor of beginning the process of issuing up to $30 million in Hurricane Recovery Revenue Notes to to be used to cover immediate re-mitigation and restoration costs, construction costs, and costs of lost contents caused by the damaging winds and rains of Hurricane Ida.
According to the American Podiatric Medical Association, diabetic foot ulcers affect approximately 15 percent of people with diabetes. It is estimated that 14-24 percent of diabetic foot ulcers end with amputation.
The Capital Area United Way (CAUW) recently awarded St. James Hospital Wellness Foundation a $25,000 Hurricane Ida Disaster Grant in support of St. James Parish Hospital Employees with unmet needs due to the storm.
St. James High School recently held a three-week food-drive and the students and faculty are happy to announce 3,016 canned goods were collected for those in need.
