On Thursday, communities across the nation, including St. James Parish, gathered to commemorate the 159th anniversary of the end of slavery in the United States, as the spirit of Juneteenth resonated throughout city parks and historic sites.

She said Parish residents on a fixed income are surprised to receive high water and gas bills due to usage averaging.

The Town of Lutcher’s Mayor and Board of Aldermen met in special session on Tuesday evening to possibly conduct a employee termination hearing/ appeal, but after the Town Attorney explained the law to the Aldermen, the meeting was declared unnecessary and was adjourned without any business being conducted.
