Lady ‘Cats Drop Pair Of Matches

The St. James Lady Wildcat Volleyball team suffered a pair of match losses to Donaldsonville and to West St. John. Against Donaldsonville, the Lady 'Cats dropped a 18-25, 25-16, 25-12, 25-11 decision. Alexis Keller delivered 10 assists. Kailah Vedol had six kills and DaLyasia Landry finished with three blocks.

Kaylor Ferchand delivered seven aces and Brianna Emery led the team with 14 digs. Against West. St. John, the Lady 'Cats fell by set scores of 25-8, 20- 25, 25-11

Lady Bulldogs Fall To East Ascension In Tourney Finals

The Lutcher Lady Bulldog Volleyball team reached the finals of the annual Dutchtown Tournament losing to East Ascension in the championship match by set scores of 25-14, 25-13. The loss marked the second time that Lutcher finished as a runner-up in as many tournaments.

The Lady 'Dogs took second place in the Assumption Tournament two weeks ago. Lutcher began tourney play with victories over Dunham and Central of Baton Rouge. Against Dunham, the Lady 'Dogs came away with a 25-18, 25-16 win.

Comets Shock Destrehan

On a beautiful night for football, the St. Charles Catholic Comets capitalized on five turnovers and bested the Destrehan Wildcats 24-8 at Dupuy stadium in LaPlace. The win advances the Comet record to 2-0 for the season.

 

The Comets held the Wildcats to a three and out on their first possesion. The Comets were also held on their first possession, but the Wildcats muffed the punt which was recovered by Nick Lorio deep in Wildcat territory.

East Ascension’s Jimel London Dominates Bulldogs In Season Opener

There was no doubt hheading into last Friday’s football game between the Lutcher Bulldogs and the East Ascension (EA) Spartans that the 5A Spartans were bigger and stronger that the 4A Bulldogs, but the deciding factor in the 30-13 Lutcher loss was not size or strength, it was EA’s stellar play on special teams.

In last week’s postgame interview with Lutcher head coach Dwain Jenkins, he spoke about EA’s Jimel London, who plays cornerback, some quarterback and returns punts and kicks for the Spartans; and Jenkins said he was the type of player who makes you hold your breath when he has the ball in his hand. Well, Jenkins could not have been more on point.

Wildcats Make Late Game Comeback To Take Down Rams

The St. James Wildcat football team scored three unanswered touchdowns in the final period to secure a comefrom- behind 36-33 victory over the West St. John Rams in the regular season opener for both teams. St. James saw its offense struggle through the first half marred by penalty flags, turnovers and inconsistent execution to trail 27-12 at the break.

But the Wildcat roared back in the second half scoring18 straight points that led to its 36-33 win. "To be honest with you, I don't know how we won the game." said a bewildered head coach Robert Valdez, who made his first appearance in Edgard after being the head mentor at West St. John for several years

Three In A Row; Bulldogs Have Wildcats’ Number

The Lutcher Bulldog football team, for the third consecutive year, have done something not many teams have been able to do and that is beat the Destrehan Wildcats.

The 5-A Wildcats, who have not lost a regular season game since 2012, fell to the 4-A Bulldogs 23-21 in last Thursday’s Ed Reed/Jarvis Landry jamboree when Bulldog kicker Alec Bland nailed a 22-yard field goal with just :03 remaining in the game.

The game was originally scheduled to be played on Friday, but school officials moved the contest up a day due to the threat of inclement weather from Hurricane Harvey.

Wildcats Rein In Mustangs With 25-14 Victory In River Parish Jamboree

The St. James Wildcat football team held on for a 25-14 victory over the Assumption High Mustangs in the River Parish Jamboree played last week.

Donaldsonville won the opening game over West St. John by a 16-15 score and the Wildcats and Mustangs followed. The Jamboree was sponsored by Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.

The Wildcats saw its defense in the second half take control for the win, while the offense scored enough points in the first half.

Making Football Safer Than Ever

The National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame announced that it has distributed a set of guidelines, created with feedback from the American Coaches Association (AFCA) that will help more than 150,000 high school coaches to inform parents about their efforts to make their football programs safer than ever.

The guidelines have been sent to and utilized by state high school associations, the AFCA membership base of 11,000, the NFF's 120 nationwide chapters and high school coaches across the country.

Chanté Lea Keller Has Signed With Piedmont International University

Former St. James High School graduate of 2017 - Chante' Lea Keller has signed with Piedmont International University, a NCCAA Division II school for softball.

Chante' has been at SJH since 2014, where she was part of the team that made history last year of winning parish championship and advancing to playoff of 2nd round.
