Wildcats Shut Out Marksville 39-0 To Advance To Second Round Of 3A Playoffs

By Jim Henderson

The St. James Wildcat football team advanced to the regional round of the Class 3A Playoffs after defeating the Marksville Tigers 39-0.

The No. 4 seeded Wildcats improved to 8-3 on the season and will travel to Baton Rouge to take on the Madison Prep Academy Chargers on Friday, November 17th.

The No. 20 seeded Chargers (5-6-1) defeated Caldwell Parish 28-8 in their first-round playoff game last week. The winner advances to the state Class 3A Quarterfinals.

Against No. 29 seeded Marksville, the Wildcats used a stingy defense that limited the Tiger offense to just 98-yards of total offense. The Tigers were only able to cross midfield three times the entire game.

Spartans Score Three Fourth Quarter TDs To Take Out Bulldogs

By David Reynaud

The Lutcher Bulldog 2017 football season came to an abrupt end last Friday as the Salmen Spartans scored a touchdown with just seconds remaining on the clock to beat the Bulldogs 34-30 in the opening round of the Class 4-A playoffs.

On paper, the No. 24 seeded Bulldogs beat the No. 9 seeded Spartans in nearly every statistical category imaginable. However, costly and questionable penalties, and a couple of missed calls by the officiating crew, seemed to play a huge role in the outcome of the game.

No one likes to make excuses, but for starters, there were only five referees officiating last Friday’s game. Six is the required number, and seven is preferred in the playoffs.

Bulldogs End Season With Loss To Plaquemine; Face Salmen In First Round Of Playoffs

By David Reynaud Editor

The first quarter of last week’s regular season finalé against the Plaquemine High Green Devils could not have been much worse for the visiting Lutcher Bulldogs. In a blink of an eye, Lutcher found themselves trailing 21-0 and forced to play catch-up the rest of the game. Lutcher kicked off to begin the game and the two teams traded punts on their first possessions.

However, things began to spiral out of control when Plaquemine’s Wayne Toussant returned the Lutcher punt 81-yards for a touchdown to give the Green Devils a 7-0 lead.
